Word Travels presents:

Multilingual Stories - A Sharing Circle

Where are you from?”
This repeated question is an irritating scratch, a little dig into skin.

It says, “You are different. I must find a pigeon-hole in my brain for you; a category.”

For the receiver, it feels offensive and tiresome.

That feeling of being different because of skin tone and / or language, how do we own it? Celebrate it? Call it our superpower?

Multilingual Stories is a sharing circle where we celebrate languages other than English, share stories and poems about being new to a place and weave diverse perspectives into a vibrant evening mesh.

On 14th April 2022, the door is open. The multilingual mic is yours.

Poets, writers and you - the audience - are invited to listen and tell stories in your mother tongue about coming to a new land.

Hosted by Brazilian interdisciplinary artist Daiane Moret with a feature performance by Mohammad Awad, a Queer/Arab/Muslim and Writer/Director/Poet/Playwright.

This event is supported by the NSW Government through Multicultural NSW and Create NSW.

Multilingual Stories is made possible thanks to the Restart Investment to Sustain and Expand (RISE) Fund – an Australian Government initiative.

Additional support provided by the City of Sydney and Word Travels.

Ticket cost: $10

As a charity, Word Travels trains and hires diverse writers to perform their stories and poems professionally. Proceeds from this event will help us to hire future writers to share their powerful words.

This is a hybrid event - some story-sharers will present in the room, others will present on-screen.

Audience attendance is both in-person and online, all welcomed.

FEATURING: Mohammad Awad and Daiane Moret
