Lizzie Jarrett is firstly a mother and aunty to her community. She is an esteemed activist, educator, poet, and warrior woman from the Gumbaynggirr, Bundjalung, and Dunghutti clans. As a direct descendant of the original Stolen Generations, Lizzie has dedicated her life to advocating for the rights of her people through activism, poetry, art, music, and community volunteering.
She is the founder of JUST US, a non-government organization that seeks funding to support families fighting the system—particularly those who have lost loved ones within the NSW criminal justice system or have had their children forcibly removed into "out of home care." Lizzie is tireless in her support for families affected by death in custody or forced removals, often attending inquests and family court hearings to advocate on their behalf.
Lizzie is a member of The Blak Caucus and is a well-respected figure at Sydney First Nations social justice rallies, frequently serving as the Master of Ceremonies for demonstrations. She currently serves as a board director and Co-chair of The Red Rattler Theatre, as well as an active member of their First Nations Advisory Committee, ensuring the voices of her people are heard.
Her unwavering commitment to community and human rights exemplifies her strength, resilience, and determination.
